Wow, what a rollercoaster of a story this was!
Olivia has gone to work at her son's boarding school following the scandal of her husbands mismanagement of his company, leaving them destitute and fallen from grace in the community.
The headmasters wife, Ruth puts some serious bumps in the road for Olivia culminating in a bit of a shocker of and ending.
This story isn't light hearted. It's a character piece filled with flawed people, and some quite unlikeable characters.
Geoffrey, Olivia's husband comes across very weak, buries his head in the sand, makes completely appalling choices and lets his wife take the burden for those choices. He's infuriating. Olivia can come across as a little whiny, but given her circumstances, who wouldn't be? Her priority is her son and the care of other people's children and does a good job.
If you like character stories, then this is the one for you. But it's not a 'fluffy' book. I however did enjoy it.
