I enjoyed this book. The opening sentence grabs your attention and doesn't let go.
Olivia thought she had a perfect life until she didn't. Her husband's business goes under she loses her lovely home in Somerset and her husband has to move back home. His mother is a meddling woman who delights in making things worse. The majority of the couple's friends turn out to be fair weather friends.
For the first time in her married life Olivia takes a job at her son's boarding school.
This is ultimately a bleak story with little sunshine to brighten it. The characters are particularly likeable or empathetic.
The story is well told and a good debut novel but I'm not sure I'd be eager to read another book by this autho
