I can see this is a clever and witty retelling of a classic novel transported to the modern age, complete with designer labels, emojis and contemporary slang. It reminds me of a recent similar treatment of Thackeray's Vanity Fair. I'm not sure if it's aimed at readers who know the original book and will be amused by the updating or those who don't know the original at all and just enjoy it as a fun, light read. What I am sure of is that it's not a book for me.
