Anna K is a modern, YA retelling of the classic Anna Karenina. I've never read the original, but I know the general outline and was a little dubious about how it would fit with a different audience.

However, I needn't have worried - Jenny Lee has crafted a masterpiece, with strong and nuanced characters. Cleverly, there is no clear villain in the story, reflecting the fact that life is not as clear cut as that. The relationships on the page jump out as beautifully realistic.

My only criticism would be that the book felt unnecessarily long... But considering its much shorter than the original, I probably shouldn't complain!

This book was brilliant - well written and easy to devour. I shall be recommending it all round!
