A modern retelling of a classic
I was excited to start reading this one as I’d never experienced Anna Karenia before, despite it being a classic.
Unfortunately the font size, small margins and full pages were a deterrent for me, but I wanted to overcome this to continue reading it. I would have preferred it if the book was chunkier with a more normal font size. I know some people would struggle with the small font and put the book down before even giving it a chance.
The story is told in a modern way, and is a book which I know I would have loved if I was still 16 and at school. Unfortunately now, these romance didn’t provide me with enough grit and excitement to make me keep reading. I might try giving the film a watch and then picking this book up again in the future when I have a better understanding of what to expect, because so far, it wasn’t enticing me.
I also really feel that the gold lipstick front cover is far more illustrative of the story than the bright pink one (as pretty as it is!)
