aimed at a young reader
I've read the original Anna K and was maybe expecting too much from this book. What I wasn't expecting was the teen language and attitudes that just don't resonate with me. I wouldn't really be comfortable with a really young adult reading this due to the drugs and suicide references. I just couldn't get into this book at all, even though I do read Young Adult fiction all the time.
Based on the young, over privileged and rich of New York it's a clever take on Anna Karenina. Just like the original it covers social norms and values, a tragic love story.
It's a very current read with lots of contemporary references. I think and for that reason it will date very quickly and unlike the book it's based upon it won't be a classic or around for very long unfortunately. the next generation of teens will not relate to it or be able to understand most of it.
