As someone that doesn’t usually enjoy classics based around love stories, Anna Karenina was proving a bit too heavy for my liking. Along case Anna K., a much needed refreshed version of the classic story.
Although this story stays close to the classic and respects the major plot points, by making it relevant and relatable for today’s readers, the book becomes a much easier read than the classic story.
However, I did feel that, at times, the author was trying too hard to make it contemporary, to make it rich and opulent (as the classic was), which made the reader feel, to a certain degree, distanced and cold towards characters that could, perhaps, have become much more likeable.
All in all, a good book if you don’t fancy reading the classic but want to know the story!
