This is a fabulous debut novel that is a modern take on an original novel. Anna K is based on the original novel of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy which depicted a tragic love story . Jenny has retained a lot of the original story line but has updated it in keeping with the modern world and current times to bring it more up to date. I read the original a long time ago as a young adult so was interesting to read this take on it now I much older and reading this has made me want to re read the original one. The cover gives the book a very glamourous and modern feel and is a good way of giving those who might not have picked up the original or have known of the story to be able to experience it.
This edition of Anna K can be read having not read the original as it doesn't detract from the story in any way and is a story in its own right. I would also say don't be put off by reading thinking that it is a Young adult book as I would have said it is also aimed at the mature end of the market and those with teenagers may want to read the book first before hand to make sure they feel comfortable with their teenager reading it as it contains a lot of explicit language and references to sex and drugs that not everyone will maybe see as suitable for that age range.
