When I first saw Anna K. I was intrigued to see how Lee was going to bring Tolstoy's Anna Karenina to the 21st century - a feat that my by no means going to be easy.

However, the characteristics that made the original characters lovable and charming, just makes the reimagined characters come across as pretentious and self-absorbed. I particularly loathed the character of 'The Count' who might just be one of my least favourite literary characters.

The references throughout the book came across as an elderly person attempting to look 'cool', rather than just pop culture references mentioned by teens.

Despite all the negatives, I do believe that Lee's reimagining will be a massive hit with a lot of people.
