I was very intrigued by the synopsis, I read a lot of YA fiction and felt that this plot sounded unique with a good range of contemporary YA topics including racism, sexuality, the wealth gap, mental health, and family. I particularly like the author's opening letter describing how he 'met' the characters, contributing to the normalisation of mental health difficulties and modelling that it is OK to share your experiences with the wider community. I found the first few chapters very compelling and and keen to read about the characters in more depth. I was pleased to see a female character successful in a male dominated field and am intrigued as to what will happen next.
