Arctic Zoo by Robert Muchamore is described as a book for young adults however, although no longer a young adult, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this well-written, thought-provoking book. Written after the author spent time in a psychiatric unit after attempting suicide despite everything appearing to be going well in his life this is a timely reminder to all of us that we cannot take our health, physical or mental, for granted. The two main characters are Julius and Georgia, one British, the other Nigerian. Although they come from very different backgrounds they meet in an adolescent mental health unit. This difference in their backgrounds and upbringing demonstrates very clearly that youngsters can spend time in a unit for many reasons. The author gives the readers the background to both their stories and it's a fascinating, informative read for everybody.
