This is a book I would never normally have picked up (I didn't like the cover for starters) but I was quickly absorbed by it. It started quite quietly, outlining the daily lives of the two main characters. I liked that it was completely unclear why these two people were connected, and also that we didn't understand the relevance of all the drone-racing at the beginning. We also didn't know for quite some time why Georgia was incarcerated.

I thought the way the author brought all the strands together was very well done, and I also felt that he managed to convey a lot about the horrors of life for some people without leaving the reader in despair - the book manages to finish on a quite positive note regardless of all the difficult times the protagonists live through. I also appreciated that the writer resisted the urge to be too black and white - to draw easy conclusions about right and wrong, for example in terms of Julius' relationship with his mother. Worth reading.
