I really respect what the Author was trying to do in Artic Zoo - to highlight mental health problems and to turn his own issues into something positive by taking inspiration from them forward into this novel.
Unfortunately, however, it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t really like the writing style and found it confusing, though I do wonder if this was intended to highlight the confusion mental health issues can cause. If this is the case then perhaps this review deserved a higher star rating. If I’d realised this was centered around child terrorism I probably would never have read it. In my opinion there are too many dark and surreal novels that are centred around children but that is merely a personal opinion - this is an acquired taste though
