This story of mental illness in an institution was so compelling and crossed that border that YA fiction seems to have set. Most ya fiction set around mental ill health is in the community so this was a refreshing to be set in a hospital context.

The story and characters felt so relatable and they brought compassion and emotion to the story. Nothing about the storyline felt predictable and it wasn't long before I felt completely absorbed and cheering these characters on.

I think this kind of representation is so important and this author did a great job of doing this. There were times that the themes felt difficult to read, but this wouldn't be a realistic depiction if it was easy. Such an enjoyable and poignant read.
