This book is technically a YA fiction but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It explores personal and social issues, which brings up good conversations about the differences in different countries. It explores the need for fighting for what you believe in - no matter the cost. Muchamore writes about contemporary topics that concern teenagers such as racism, sexuality, the wealth gap, mental health, and family. The characters are in depth as we get to see what led them to the point of the story. Although they are different (and never meet except a short scene in the beginning), both of their stories are complex and vivid.

I was impressed with how much research Muchamore has done especially in Julius's case as I've never been to Nigeria but he made me get a feel of how horrendous it would be to live in a country where there is so much political crime & human rights violation.
