Muslim Pride and Prejudice? What does that mean, I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice and never will, but this piece, I liked.

Good character development, taking a look in at the themes of attraction, friendships, and responsibilities.

Well written in a light hearted prose that warms the characters nicely. There is one character that is drab, that is Toronto. Such a colourful city, I really would have enjoyed reading about the Streetcars, but these details were not there. Maybe the author describes this later on.

There were stages of the book which were a little rushed, it would have been nice to have had a description of Khalid along with his introduction rather than a few pages down. Also the description of Ayesha was not as complete as that of Khalid, she may have ginger dreadlocks as far as I know.

I know westerners get hung up on arranged marriages and other practices which can be tagged on to people perceived as them rather than us, but what this piece did very well was present the Muslim characters as human beings, which makes a nice change from the news and other popular media.

This should be a good read for anybody lucky enough to win it.
