This Pride and Prejudice retelling, set in a Muslim community in contemporary Toronto, was a joy - great fun, with enough weight behind it to keep things interesting, close enough to the original to recognise the characters, but never feeling contrived.

Aspiring poet and newly qualified teacher Ayesha keeps crossing paths with traditional, awkward, judgemental Khalid. Both have problematic jobs and difficult family lives. And neither can forget the other.

The characters and relationships were so well drawn and believable, and the side-characters, their friends and families felt equally real and complicated. It’s firmly set in the real world, with themes of workplace discrimination, struggles between questioning and respecting tradition, and money-worries. But above all, it’s a well-told, fun story!

And is it wrong to have a soft-spot for a money-minded wrestling life-coach?
