This book really blew me away! I did not know the world needed a modern Muslim Pride and Prejudice adaption until I read the first look but not now I can't think about how much I needed this.
Uzma Jalaluddin modernised this book in every way, from modern technology and multicultural setting to making the Lizzie Bennet character (I would die for Ayesha) a teacher and poet to adding her very own societal critique to Austens:
The novel is not only a retelling of one of the greatest love stories but also employs themes of discrimination in the workplace, the upsides and downsides of arranged marriage, the right to self-expression.
I really hope Uzma Jalaluddin publishes more and I would die for a modern, Muslim adaption of Emma.
Furthermore, Khalid is perfectly fitting for a modern Darcy, as Jalaluddin understands that Darcy is in fact just a socially awkward guy that has no idea how to interact with women even if his life depended on it and I am living for it!
