I didn't expect that I would enjoy this as much as I did.
A very funny book dealing with some serious issues - arranged marriages, racial discrimination, sexual exploitation.
Ayesha and Khalid are both from Muslim families. Ayesha is a modern, progressive, newly qualified teacher who enjoys writing and presenting poetry and expects to marry for love. Khalid is a 'fundy' - a traditional Islamist still living with his mother who believes in arranged marriages. The story describes their tempestuous courtship. Although the title gives the reader a big clue to the outcome, the book is very enjoyable and thought provoking.
I think this story would make a great movie with the opportunity for some extravagant wedding scenes and dancing suitable for Bollywood.
