As soon as I heard this novel being pitched as a modern day Muslim retelling of Pride and Prejudice, I knew I had to read it. Although this book obviously isn't an exact retelling of P&P, I can certainly see why it's drawing those comparisons.

Set in Toronto, it follows the story of Ayesha and Khalid. Ayesha is a strong willed and independent young woman, who soon begins to clash with the devout Khalid, who holds more traditional Muslim views. I loved Ayesha almost immediately - she's definitely a Lizzie Bennet type, intelligent, strong, fierce etc. Khalid (naturally) takes a little bit longer to warm to, but you do see things from his perspective as the story progresses, and we learn more about why he is who he is.

Overall a great read, and an important look at two (very different) Muslim characters. Although the racism and islamiphobia they faced in this book made me incredibly sad, I know it was probably also incredibly accurate, and this book didn't shy away from representing that.
