At it's heart this book is a murder mystery, Luca's sister has been found dead in suspicious circumstances. Bad enough but her death feels like the latest in a long line of death and tragedy in Parris, especially to Luca who's best friend was the previous victim. She's had enough and decides to do some digging for herself, as the Police don't seem to be coming up with answers.
Parris is painted as a potential paradise. Located by the sea and swimming with the wealthy and privileged there is a vibe of Beverley Hills 90210 about it. The flip side is the uneasy co-existence with the less fortunate and there is a feeling of general mistrust that permeates the entire tale. It gives the book a dark and slightly creepy undertone.
The chapters are short and quite punchy which keeps it a pace driven and page turning kind of read. I can't honestly say that I liked any of the characters though and the ending fizzled out rather than exploded.
