A gripping thriller about class and island life
Although this book started as a slow burner you soon are pulled in Parris life. Following the story of Luca, a young mixed race, LGBT+ adult on a small island of rich white families, you explore the class system and see just how far some will go to keep their secrets - money can buy you anything afterall!
Luca was very well written and her search for answers and the truth made her likeable. It was also refreshing to have an LGBT character in a book without that being their main character plot, something that has been done far too often before (and could have easily happened in this book - small island girl looking for love).
Overall it is a beautiful coming of age story that is interlaced with the mystery of discovering the truth about the murders on the island. As you learn more about the dark past of Parris and 'the curse' you also see Luca grow to be a young woman.
