I was looking forwards to my summer read of "Bad things happen here" and thought it sounded really good after reading the first look. While I did enjoy it, I found the ending rather dissapointing. The story centres around Luca Laine Thomas who lives on Parris Island. An island that is cursed, with several young women dying. After the death of her sister, Luca sets out to investigate the curse and to try and uncover what is really going on. Along the way she must try to work out who she can really trust. Luca is a really interesting character and it was good reading about her relationships with other characters in the book. It was interesting to read how these changed after her sister Whitney dies. The book is very sad at times and also deals with issues of mental health. It is also a little scary with talk of the "curse" of Parris Island. Overall in my opinion it was OK to read but not quite as good as I had hoped.
