Bad Things Happen Here is a fast paced, easy read thriller.
Parris Island is a great setting, I always love the island setting for a thriller. We get to know some of the families that have grown up here, with a potential curse that is claiming lives of its residents in strange ways.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and I loved Naomi and Luca together. Luca was so determined to prove the curse is real and got really stuck into investigating the deaths. The reader is able to feel the anxiety and how much this is consuming Luca.
The writing is easy to follow and does keep you hooked.
However, I feel like the solving of Whits death felt like parts were just added for convenience and kind of came out of nowhere.
I also feel like the ending left so many things unanswered. Although one death is solved, we are still left not knowing about the others, which were not linked, so therefore not likely to have been the same perpetrator? It feels a little unfinished, so it will be interesting to see if we get another book that could maybe give us closure on Naomi and Luca, and whether the curse of the island is in fact just unfortunate events, or the people the island attracts.
Overall, it's a good summer thriller, it just wasn't quite enough for me.
