When I first read the premise of this novel, I was immediately hooked. I loved the idea of Parris, a privileged island home to (mostly) white elites. It seemed like it would be an isolated community full of secrets and that's exactly what it was. The idea of a "curse" that killed young women in the community was such an intriguing plot point, especially since the last person it took was Luca's sister, Whitney.

I really enjoyed how fast paced this book was. There were so many revelations that showed that nobody on the island was who they were pretending to be. Even though certain characters seemed like caricatures or tropes, all of them had more to them than met the eye.

For the most part, I did enjoy Luca's character, but there were points where she felt too acerbic and some of her decisions didn't always make sense to me. I also didn't think the romance was really necessary, but it was a cute addition. This book also has some fantastic representation (though it did feel like Luca had all of the representation in solely her character).

Overall, this was a solid young adult novel and I'm very much looking forward to reading Rebecca Barrow's other books.
