I was expecting a very light read with the book being targeted at young adults. I was wrong! Alongside having a murder mystery theme and hints of an island ' curse', the book also covered so many more themes. Friendship, relationships, sexuality and past trauma were all hidden within the book. It was quite refreshing to have this written in a rather adult way rather than toned down for a younger audience. There was also a lot of growth for the main characters and a sense of them finding themselves as the story went on. It also looked at the pressures of living in a small community where everyone knows everyone else's business. I was a little disappointed in the ending and would love to see a sequel explaining where the main character is now, but maybe that adds to the mystery! I would definitely read other books by this author despite them having a different target audience!
