Lovely cover, really pretty, definitely gives off island vibes to match the setting.

I didn't read this book, I devoured it. It is so easy to read and so conversationally written I just struggled to put the book down.
The story follows Luca who tells the story of a curse on the island, which claimed her best friend Polly. Polly's parents move away and the new inhabitants of Polly's home have many similarities that hit home for Luca so naturally the two trauma bond.
The subject of grief is woven throughout the story and how each character has dealt with it. The good thing about this though is that it doesn't pass judgement on the paths of grief each person takes, which
I believe the book to be aimed at going adults, 15 or 16 onwards maybe.
Some parts of it really took me back to my own teenage years like the "I like someone" moments which was nice, but it was also enveloped in a sense of mystery.

I wasn't expecting the twists and turns the story took and it was really good that I never saw any of them coming.

I'd really recommend this book.

I'll add that if you have issues with self harm that there are a few references in there and from pretty early on, but they are dealt with in a constructive way.

This might sound weird but this paperback also has a great 'flop' to the pages which is always a win for me.
