If you are into whodunit type thrillers this may not be the best book for you as it is not the most challenging plot to work out who the murderer was. What was different about this book was the author’s take on other subjects, such as grief, mental health, sexuality, growing up, relationships between family members, friends and lovers, all told through the eyes of the main character Luca Laine Thomas. The author twists the plot around all these subjects in a very natural and uncontrived way, despite the extravagant location and lifestyles of the characters, which makes the book highly readable.

The book is set in the glamour and rich island of Parris, where the self-entitled teenagers go about their extravagant lives with no real consideration of consequences. All apart from Luca, whose best friend had died in what was said to be an accident and then, early on in the book, her sister is murdered. Luca, together with her new friend Naomi, try to find out the truth of what happened. I won’t say anymore as don’t wish to spoil reading the book for anyone other than it is a bit different to what I expected and I really enjoyed it.
