I love reading murder mysteries involving teen investigators, so I was really looking forward to reading this one. The setting of Parris intrigued me and the mysterious past and curse were an interesting touch. I did struggle to get into the book at first but the more I read of it, the more hooked I got and by the end, I was really invested in finding out what had happened.

Luca wasn't the most likeable character but I think that was understandable given what she has been through, and the depiction of her intrusive thoughts felt realistic and well done. I do wish that her investigation had more involvement with the overall plot, as it did feel half-hearted and that she just discovered things by accident, rather than by actually investigating.

I enjoyed the reveal, it was tense and I couldn't put the book down at that point, but I didn't like that some of the storylines were left so open-ended. Although I can understand why that was done, I just wish there were some more definitive answers to some things.
