To have a modern book about a Ballet School written by a professional ballerina is a great idea, so 'Ballet Besties' ticks all the boxes.
Principle Dancer of the Royal Ballet Yasmine Naghdi, and co author Chitra Soundar include lots of insights into the ballet world through the lives of their young ballerina characters.

Yara's early years have been spent moving from country to country with her father's job, but now they are settled in one place, Yara can, at last, join a Ballet School and learn more about her passion for dance.
But after making new friends, and enjoying the lessons at the Shimmer and Shine Dance Studio, Yara discovers that the future of the Studio is under threat.
Can Yara and her friends come up with a plan to save Shimmer and Shine before its too late?

I think any youngster interested in dance would love this tale. It is written in an easy style for readers aged 7-9 years, and I love the addition of Paula Franco's illustrations which bring the characters to life.
Yasmine goes into great detail about the ballet moves and even includes a glossary at the back of the book to enable her readers to join in, understand, and have a go at the diiferent positions at home. There are fabulous descriptions of the Sleeping Beauty storyline too.
Ballet Besties is a story about friendship, passion dor what you love, and fighting for what you believe in. It"s a really heartwarming tale and shows that if you work hard and are kind to others, you can achieve your goals.
A great read for any aspiring ballet dancers!
