I have just finished Ballet Besties Yara’s Chance to Dance by Yasmine Naghdi with Paula Franco’s fantastic illustratrations. It is the story 10 year old of Yara who joins Shimmer and Shine, a community dance school, and soon makes friends and gets to practise her beloved ballet moves. But the dance studio is at risk of being closed and Yara and her friends need to put on a performance of The Sleeping Beauty to try and save it. With wonderful characters like Miss Diamond the ballet school teacher, this is a book not just about ballet but also friendships and dreams. I liked the fact that the author is an accomplished ballerina herself, for me that clearly shimmers and shines through her writing. I also very much enjoyed the beautiful illustrations throughout. Overall a magical book for young readers and ballet enthusiasts of any age!
