This is good, the cover shows the three heros, not friends proper but thrown together by circumstances to complete their separate missions. Kayla's winged Pangren, a large flying beast used for attack on enemies, has been stolen. She must find it. Rustus, youngest son must prove himself to his siblings and father by undergoing, and succeeding, the rites of manhood. Aletha, orphaned, carrying on her father's healing practice, must find the antidote to terrible disease that could wipe out all their island's population. These three young people are all outsiders, difficult to make friends, somewhat isolated. This is all they have in common, but they work together in the beastlands to avoid being destroyed by beasts. The action starts with the first sentence and never lets up. Very well and convincingly written, you will love this book and become lost in it immediately.
