Jess French has a wonderful imagination and creates the most incredible animals, people and worlds for her marvellous adventure stories. Children and a lot of adults will be transported to a different world and swept along on this exciting adventure. In Beastlands - Race to Frostfall Mountain three very different children join forces following varied experiences. Rustus is an Unscorched Atari warrior who fails the test to become Scorched after taking time to help a friend. As a result his family disown him and he is cast out to the Shadowlands. Kayla is a trainee Sky Cadet who goes in search of her pangron after it's stolen from her. Alethea is a healer desperate to find a cure for the scourge and sets off in search of a plant she hopes will be the answer. Despite travelling for very different reasons the three meet up and set off together as it appears their goals might not be so very different, just as they aren't as different as first appeared. Not only a wonderful story, this book carries important messages of inclusion and not judging on appearances. Can't wait to read Legend of the Crystal Caves, the next Beastlands story.
