Covers always seem to me to be important and this one would certainly attract my attention in a bookshop. This, for me, is a challenging first impression because the stated genre of science fiction is not my usual reading choice. However, the occupation of the main character suggests there is an intriguing mystery/crime influence also feeding into this novel. The beginning of a novel of this kind inevitably raises more questions than answers because it is opening up a very different world but there was enough in this extract to persuade me to read more if only to see how it all developed.
