First off, a beautifully bound book on decent paper, thanks Corvus, also a nicely designed cover.
From reading the taster I had high hopes for this novel, and certainly the set up was full of promise. There is a lot to enjoy here certainly, some excellent descriptive passages, and a whole mysterious zone with its' flora and fauna is summoned up in style.
The slow narcotic effect the place has on people is also nicely caught, and the reader is caught up in its' woozy but sinister charm.
However, for a short novel, an awful lot of the story is taken up with characters back stories, and their rather laborious self analysis, all of which does little to move the plot on.
Having said that, I enjoyed the book and polished it off in no time.
