If you know of Chris Beckett, you’ll know his strength is science fiction, and this book is no different. This book is absolutely beautiful. The cover has vivid colours and generally looks gorgeous. It leads you to feel that the story will be otherworldly, and it’s not wrong. I’m sorry to say that the cover was probably my favourite part of this book. This is quite a strange read. The author has great use of imagery but I didn’t find it easy to slip into and invest in his magical fantasy world.
It didn’t captivate me. A good read if you want to feel like you’re going on an imaginative journey but not one that is going to grab you and demand your attention. Still a good book, just not my favourite genre.
