This sci-fi story takes place in 1990, somewhere in the Brazilian jungle, populated only by plants and animals. As our main character, a police officer finds this strange, unpopulated environment has strange effects on the human mind.
The author achieves a sense of realism, he creates an environment that’s not completely unrealistic as a lot of sci-fi books tend to do. The weird and wonderful depiction of the vegetation of an alien world and of the half formed creatures somewhere between human, animal and plant is wonderful.
It did however lack in human character, the English policemen lacks depth and interest which was utterly disappointing. I do stress that the exploration of a world where the alien creatures and the environment have a devastating effect on the human mind was certainly very interesting the lack of characterisation significantly lowered my interest.
