In the beginning I was really excited by the science fiction within this book, I have never read anything like it. The descriptions of the scenery and the way the whole ‘Submundo’ plays with your mind and makes you have thoughts that you never knew you had and the Duende characters are really creepy and interesting.

However, as I kept on reading I found I was half way through the book and the story hadn’t really moved on... I hadn’t learnt a lot about the Duendes, only the back stories of a few characters. It definitely isn’t light reading and takes a lot of concentration to crack through some of the in depth areas.

I like the basis and the setting and even the characters but there are a lot of words and conversations within the book which I find quite pointless. I was always wishing for more and it was always so complicated, like listening to a scholar talk for ages about random stuff you’re not interested in. Strangest book I’ve ever read and unfortunately not for the right reasons.
