This book had so much potential.......and a truly stunning cover, but while I didn't totally hate it, I can't say I enjoyed it, or think it will stay with me, or would necessarily make me want to read another book by the same author.
The plot has been visited so many times in so many other guises and genres it all feels a bit 'oh here we go again', and at times it feels like the author had so many ideas for 'world building' he chucked them all at this in one go rather than giving space to truly let ideas build and develop more naturally and at an easier pace.
There's some lovely descriptive pieces and character building but as a whole the book didn't really come together in a satisfying read.
