This is a seriously weird read! It is difficult to review because it leaves you wondering what you just read and why!
South America, 1990. Ben Ronson, a British police officer, arrives in a mysterious forest to investigate a spate of killings of a local species called the Duendes. They are silent, vaguely humanoid creatures - with long limbs and black button eyes - that have a strange psychic effect on people, exposing them to their suppressed thoughts and fears.
The premise was good and I was originally intrigued by the Duendes. There was so much mileage in the storyline which did not materialise. Really difficult to explain but I found it all so confusing and inward looking. Beautiful cover, weird book.
