This book, subtly and with great empathy, describes the turmoil of emotions that two girls, Maryam and Zahra, are buffeted about by, as they grow from young teenagers into mature lives. They belong to the wealthier class of Pakistani people, and so are privileged to go to good schools, with expectations of university and professional life after that. The social maze of the background culture intertwines with the intimacy of of being best friends since the age of four. How this will survive the upheaval of leaving school and family, and even country, is vividly and sensitively developed. A really good story that you cannot help but become involved with emotionally.
