Gripping and intriguing.
From the start, I found it a difficult book to put down. Shamsie writes in a way that is detailed and intriguing. Her descriptions place you in school in Karachi in 1988 helping you, as the reader, to feel like a fly on the wall. Furthermore, the social aspects of being a girl in Karachi are handled sensitively and honestly.
I am very interested in how the story progresses, as although Maryam's and Zarha's friendship seems solid, there is clearly something going on and about to unravel.
