I feel absolutely baffled by this book. Having LOVED Home Fire and enjoyed Burnt Shadows, I really expected a strong plot from anything Shamsie writes. But the pivotal event that this book hinges on was almost a non-event in my mind. Yes, two 14 year olds put themselves in a tight spot and got a scare, and their actions had some consequences. But nothing awful really happened to them. And yet we are meant to believe that 30 years later they are still traumatised by this event and then go about exacting revenge when an opportunity presents itself..... these are two successful, wealthy women who in real life, I suspect, wouldn't even remember the thing that happened to them when they were 14. Giving this book 2 stars because I did really like the characters and thought they were well written and put together, but really, I just didn't get this book at all.
