I loved Home Fire by Shamise so was really looking forward to reading this book. It didn’t disappoint. Best of Friends follows Maryam and Zahra over the course of their lives. The girls grow up in Karachi under the rule of a dictator. We follow them through their schooling and see the contrasts between their upbringings and places in society. We then jump forward 30 years where both the women are living in London. The story shows the contrasts between their lives and independence as they both follow their chosen contrasting paths in life. The connection between the two parts of the story is great and it is interesting to see how their relationships progress. The book is very character driven oppose to plot driven but the way the story is told makes you want to know more about their lives. Such a well written and enjoyable book would definitely recommend
