This book is set in 1988 and follows the journey of two very close friends with their two fourteen year old teenage children. Both friends are from very different backgrounds; Zahra who is from a working class background and Maryam who is from an affluent, well-off family. It is set under the strict government controlled regime in Pakistan. The book seems to be split in two halves , with the second half talking about how they managed to achieve their goals, despite the challenges that they faced (set in 2019).
Overall, I really liked this book, especially seeing how strong the friendship was between the two women. It was well written and had good descriptions, and for that reason, I would definitely recommend. I could definitely visualise every scene and really got to immerse myself in this book and get to know all of the characters well.
