I absolutely loved Home Fire, so I was very excited to receive an eARC of Shamsie's newest release, Best of Friends.
Unfortunately, I really did not enjoy this story at all. Neither of the two lead characters were written well enough for me to find engaging or interesting and I have to admit that they felt as if they had been written by a man. By about the 40-50% mark, I found myself becoming detached from the story and then I eventually lost all interest. I was hoping for a story that focused on the power of friendships and what can be their foundations, but the story was just too dull for me. Everything was a bit messy and it seemed as if the author didn't really know what direction she wanted the story to go in.
Sadly, Best of Friends definitely wasn't the book for me. My opinion seems to be in the minority here as other reviewers gave more glowing reviews.
