A coming of age novel spanning over thirty years set in Karachi and the UK and how the repercussions of one night in their teenage years are so evident in their adult lives .

We first meet Maryam and Zahra in 1988 when Pakistan was facing political unrest and the first women comes into power and suddenly the wider world is full of opportunities .

We fast forward to present day London and see Maryam and Zahra as adults bound together by that one night in their teens .

The book is very well written but I can see how some may be put off by the political element to both sides of the story as it does get quite deep at times , it's not a light read by any means but i found it also to be an educational journey as i learnt a lot about the political situation in Pakistan .

For me the first half is the most enjoyable as the second half seems to have a lot going on, racism, politics, education, immigration but please don't let this put you of as it is a great read !
