I really enjoyed reading this book as a whole. There were a few bits where I was a bit bored but overall it was quite interesting.
I thought both protagonists were really interesting characters which you got to explore in depth throughout the book. Both Maryam and Zahra had their flaws which made them more interesting to read about and more realistic and humans. Personally, I found myself rooting for Maryam throughout the whole book, even when she made mistakes.
The book makes some really great points politically which were intriguing. I found what it was saying about the treatment of refugees in Britain especially thought provoking. Some of the issues the book talks about also feel really relatable since the second part of it's set in 2019 London. This might be the reason I preferred the second half of the book to the first. It was just really interesting to read about how the characters turn out decades after a life changing event in their lives.
Would recommend!
