This book tells the story of a long lasting friendship. It starts in 1988 with two 14 year old teenagers, Maryam who is from an affluent family of professionals and Zahra who is from a working class background. They live in very strict government controlled Pakistan, until that is he is killed in an air crash.
The book seems to tell a story of time moving forwards and the changes that happen as progress is made. I liked the fact that we got to see how the characters developed and grew as the years of the story passed by.
I enjoyed the style of writing and the way that the book is written. I thought it was very poetic. I think overall it could have maybe had a bit more structure with chapters however this may be something that is changed as the book is properly published.
