This is a fascinating read spanning a longtime friendship between Zahra and Maryam which starts in Karachi in 1988 when they are fourteen and already have many years of friendship between them yet their differences are starting to emerge more as they become more aware of themselves as women and also in their aspirations for life. A night out that goes wrong has consequences for Maryam yet she remains loyal to Zahra and the story continues in London in 2019. Both women have very successful careers but aspects of these sometimes put them in opposition to the other however they remain close friends yet a reminder of that fateful night puts the friendship to the test.
I loved the originality of this and I thought the way both Zahra and Maryam contrasted with each other throughout their lives yet remained close in spite of the differences worked well. It was interesting to see the role politics played in this as well as the differences in morals and how that played out. 7/10
